Meet the Maker
With a deep-rooted passion for various art forms since her early years and always being drawn to ceramics, Sandra embarked on her clay journey in 2012 through classes and a studio membership in Victoria, BC while working as a Registered Veterinary Technologist. From her very first experience on the pottery wheel, she knew that pottery would become an integral part of her life. In 2018, after relocating to Shawnigan Lake and joining the Clay Hub Collective in South Cowichan, Sandra fulfilled her long-term dream of building a home studio, which was completed in 2022.
Sandra is driven to continually expand her knowledge of ceramics, delving into the intricate world of glaze chemistry. For her, it is important to craft her own unique glazes and not rely on pre-made formulas. Comprehending glaze chemistry, materials, application techniques, and firing processes are as essential to her artistic process as shaping the raw clay itself.
Drawing inspiration from the breathtaking and diverse natural beauty of Vancouver Island, Sandra incorporates texture, movement, and a unique charm into her creations. With attention to balance, form, and tactile sensation, she infuses each piece with a harmonious blend of beauty and functionality.
